Moore's Olde Tyme Barbeque
Hwy 17 South
New Bern, NC  28562

252-638-3937

We like to use the words Olde Tyme with our name because we still like to roast and smoke our pigs in a real pit over live oak coals. Over sixty years ago that is the way John Moore, the founder started. He went to the country, bought a single pig, slaughtered the pig himself, built a nice hot bed of oak coals, threw them in the pit and roasted that first pig. When you drive up you may have noticed the piles of cord wood stacked out back, your assurance of quality roasted pigs. We still do it the olde tyme way.

This location is the seventh spot Moore’s BBQ has been in. The first was in James City across the river in 1945. The second was on Hancock Street near Barbour Boat Works. The third was right in Five Points when the Days Inn is now. The fourth was the most remembered, it was across from Armstrong Grocery there the Scotchman convenient store is. The sixth was out by the Weyerhauser Plant. The seventh you are standing in on Highway 17 South. We have been here since January 1973.

A few things have changed over the years. John Moore died in 1989 and Dot Moore died on Valentine’s Day 1995.

John & Dot strived to provide their customers with good food at reasonable prices with friendly, prompt service. I think they were successful. Their 50 years of service is testimony enough.

We are endeavoring to continue with the same goals in mind. By giving thanks to God and with his grace we will succeed.

Tommy Moore
